Are You Proud Of Your Village?

If you're proud of Hurst, care about the character and unique combination of rural and semi-rural environment, and would like to see this maintained and improved, then why not join the Hurst Village Society?

The group provides an independent voice in the local community. Under the recent chairmanship of David Shapland it has been successful in lobbying and campaigning to ensure that new housing developments do not harm the character of the parish, and road safety measures enable people to enjoy walking and riding along the lanes and roads.

It also runs projects to improve the environment and maintain the natural biodiversity of the parish, including hedge laying, tree planting, surveying for Great Crested Newts and putting up nesting boxes for bats and barn owls.

This newsletter, published by the HVS five times a year and distributed to every household by hand, contains news about organisations ranging from the long-established Horticultural Society to the brand new children's community theatre group.

The Skills Register, published annually, is a guide to local people who provide professional and artisan services. The HVS website includes information about the village and a gallery of photographs. The HVS organises social activities including the successful annual dinner dance every winter, and committee members run the archery competition at the Horse Show.

Membership costs just £5 per household each year, and it's easy to join by filling in the membership application form and either sending it to Eddie Coe, Membership Secretary, or giving it with your membership fee to any of the committee members.
