Litter It's a Real Problem
The village spring clean on 22 March was very well attended, with 43 willing helpers who collected a small mountain of black sacks of rubbish from the ditches and hedgerows. Special thanks go to the Cub Scouts who were out in force under the supervision of John Terry.
Although Wokingham Unitary provided the black sacks and litter pickers, they didn't supply the skips. The parish council is grateful to a resident who was able to supply a large skip and dispose of the rubbish.
Unfortunately the problem of rubbish in the village doesn't go away in spite of the best efforts of 43 willing helpers. One volunteer was disappointed to see that after a morning clearing Church Hill and part of Lodge Road, litter had returned by the afternoon. Why do people throw litter down and out of cars?
In the US, residents are encouraged to "adopt a highway" and help to keep it litter-free. Perhaps we could do something similar in the village e.g. residents could volunteer to clear rubbish from a certain route during the year? All suggestions and ideas can be sent to the Parish Council, or Councillor Annette Drake.
