Golden Jubilee celebrations

The Village Halls Committee is taking the lead in the organisation of a number of events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Queen's coronation in June 1952.

To date three events are being planned around the long holiday weekend:

  • Golden Jubilee Ball at the Village Hall on Saturday 1 June. This will replace the annual May Ball and will be a black tie event with top class entertainment and a sumptuous dinner.
  • Children's Party on the Village Green on Monday 3 June. A traditional tea party with professional entertainers and games for the children. Each child will receive a Jubilee memento.
  • Children's Poetry competition. The Village school will submit three entries for a National Poetry competition. Prizes will be awarded to the chosen three.

Further details of timing, ticket prices and sales contacts will be included in the May edition of this Newsletter.

Other events are being considered and any additional ideas or offers of help will be welcomed. Contact John Edwards on 0118 934 xxxx.

Village Hall improvements

Many of you will have noticed a series of enhancements to the School Road entrance of the Large Village Hall. With the aid of a generous grant from Summerleaze, disabled access has been provided, the parking area has been paved and planting has softened the whole aspect.

This was the latest phase of an ongoing programme of improvements to the Halls and the surrounding grounds. As funds are raised future projects will include: new curtains in the Large Hall, the provision of new seating, and the re-roofing of the Committee Room extension and the Manageress' house.
