THE VIEW FROM SHUTE END......
Councillor Annette Drake reports
Dinton Pastures.
The new Wildlife and Access Trails at Dinton Pastures Country Park
were opened on 18 October by the TV naturalist Chris Packham.
After unveiling a new signpost we walked the Meadow Meander trail
which is one of three circular routes devised by the Loddon Valley Ramblers.
It is suitable for wheelchairs and scooters.
All walks are waymarked with yellow or blue signs for paths and bridleways,
and they start and finish at the main car park off Davis Street.
Dogs are welcome, but please clear up after them, close gates and take your litter home.
New information sheets about the walks and other activities at Dinton Pastures
are available from the Post Office,
or the District Council's Countryside Service.
Village Bus Service.
The new timetables for the 128 village bus service to and from Twyford and Reading
are in the Post Office, at the District Council offices, and I have a few spare ones.
The bus now travels along Sawpit Road and Lodge Road en route
for Winnersh, Emmbrook and The Holt Schools.
This avoids traffic congestion in Church Hill which is a conservation area.
People with mobility problems living on Church Hill
are able to use the Dial-a-Ride services (0118 931 0000) and Keep Mobile (0118 934 xxxx).
Concessionary Travel.
The Community Services department offers concessionary fare schemes for everyone
who has reached statutory retirement age (60 for women and 65 for men),
or who have disabilities.
Travel Tokens, half-fare bus pass or discounted Senior Rail Card are all available.
Tokens can be used to pay for taxi, bus or rail journeys.
Additional tokens can be issued to essential companions for people
who are too disabled to travel alone.

Disabled Children's Planning Register.
This register has been set up to help prepare and organise
future services for disabled children.
Parents and carers are under no obligation to register their child,
but it helps the provision of service if people state what they will need.
