Appeal for Poppy Appeal collectors
Could you spend a few hours collecting money for the annual Poppy Appeal this year?
Hurst Royal British Legion is looking for people to volunteer to collect
at service stations on the M4, and door-to-door in the village in the four weeks
before Remembrance Day.
David Bye is the Poppy Appeal co-ordinator, and, with the help of George Claridge,
he will be organising a roster of collectors.
Last year's collection raised £3,000 as a contribution
to the national total of £18 million.
"We only ask for people to give a couple of hours of their time,
and we provide transport for people collecting at the service stations,"
explains George Claridge, who can be contacted on 934 xxxx.
The Legion will be hosting a Dug-Out Supper on Friday 17 November in Hurst Village Hall.
Tickets are available from Legion committee members, or contact George Claridge.
The evening promises to be fun and lively with old time music hall songs
as well as old favourites like White Cliffs of Dover,
and Hanging out the Washing on the Siegfried Line.
Supper will be bangers, mash and beans, followed by apple tart and cream!
All former service people and their families will be very welcome.
Whist Drives a Village Hall
Make new friends at Hurst Whist Drives.
Did you know that Whist Drives are held at the Small Village Hall
every other Tuesday during the autumn and winter?
They started this year on 12 September, so the next one this month will be on 26 September,
then on 10 and 24 October and every two weeks afterwards.
Betty Smith, one of the organisers, assures people that they will receive a warm welcome:
"We're a friendly group and would love to see people join the Whist Drive group.
The cost is just £1 and that covers refreshments.
Any money we raise goes to the Village Hall Funds."
For more information, please call 934 xxxx, or contact Betty Smith on 934 xxxx.
