Progress for the Dennis Eastwood Library
As we reported in the last Newsletter, work has commenced on cataloguing the books
left to the Society by the late Denis Eastwood.
Progress to date has been slow due to the various other events that have been taking place
in the village over the summer, but will start in earnest now that the evenings are drawing in.
Volunteers to help with this process would be very welcome and anyone interested
should contact David Shapland on 934 xxxx.
The Library will be open to everyone in the village and books can be borrowed free of charge.
The Library will not have fixed opening hours,
instead we will be publishing a full list of the books that are available.
Anyone wishing to use the Library will need to call to arrange a time to pick up the books
they are interested in or to simply browse the shelves.
The list of titles will be circulated to households with the next Newsletter.
Copies of the list will also be available from shops and pubs in the village
(details in the next Newsletter)
and will also be published on our web site www.hvs.org.uk
Speed Limits on Wokingham Road
Traffic speed monitoring
on the A321 Wokingham Road revealed that the speed limit
at the north site is set at the correct level,
and that the limit at the south site could be reduced from 60mph to 40mph,
subject to the committee's approval.
A consultation period will then take place and if no objections are received
the proposal can be introduced.
However, the funding is not available for these works at the moment,
but once approved it can be placed on a list for funding in the future.
The Davis Street traffic calming proposals
will be discussed at the January meeting of the highways committee.
The reason for the delay is the need for further consultation
with people living on Davis Street.
