Successful Horse Show and Fayre Helps Local Charities

The Hurst Horse Show and Country Fayre enjoyed a lovely weekend (as usual!) at the end of June, write Cathy and Dave Lochman. This year we welcomed back the horses, after last year's sad omission (owing to the Foot and Mouth disaster).

On display, in the changed around show-grounds, was the Living Craft area, bigger than ever before; the craft tent with its usual mixture of local and travelling craft stalls; and the School stalls - books, bric-a-brac, food stuffs and games; cart rides around the village.

The Ring attractions including the St. Nicholas School children dancing around the maypole and singing in the choir; constant commentary and music from our star DJ, Peter Head, and each day's events were finished off with the Terrier Racing which seems, somehow, to get funnier with the years!

Saturday evening was topped off by the PTA BBQ on the school field - where the Jennings steaks 'n burgers were enjoyed with a good drink and chat - and dancing to the disco to 10.00pm.

Complimentary comments

The horse events were extremely well attended and apart from a little timetable congestion on the first day seemed to be enjoyed by all - riders and horses alike!

Two new awards were presented to local landowners for their contributions to the Hurst Riders Club Road Safety Initiative.

As ever the HHS committee had little time to 'see' the show - but we have received dozens of lovely (and all!) complimentary comments back from the many visitors to this year's Show.

The committee would like to thank all the many village people involved with the Show for all their hard work and commitment - which was not in vain. During August the committee has been able to make record distributions to the village school and the many local charities and good causes it is our pleasure to support. Thank you to all concerned - please come and help again next year!
