Parish Design Statement Update
What’s been happening since the last Newsletter?
John Lemon reports....
Many people throughout the Parish have put in a lot of work. During February, seven groups walked all the streets of the Parish, and many of the footpaths, looking at buildings, the landscape, the street scene – everything that makes Hurst what it is – gathering information, and taking hundreds of photos.
Then we all got together in early March to share the experience through displays and presentations. The hard work and dedication shown by everyone in this exercise (February is not the most pleasant time of year to walk round taking notes and photos!) has been a joy to experience, and the Parish Council is truly grateful to everyone who took part.
From this we were able to start drawing out some answers to the question: “What does make Hurst what it is?” Perhaps surprisingly in a Parish so diverse and spread out, a number of common themes emerged. The Working Group set up by the Parish Council is now busy using this information – your information – to produce the first draft of the Parish Design Statement.
What happens next?
Once that first draft is ready, in the early summer, we need as many people as possible to look at it, and give us their comments, so that we can refine the Statement further. We hope that, with a draft document to shoot at, many more of you will feel able to join in. The details of this next stage of consultation are yet to be worked out, but expect to hear from us in a couple of months!
