CELEBRATE ST. NICHOLAS' DAY
The last Millennium event of 2000 will be the celebration of the Feast of St. Nicholas,
on Wednesday 6th December. Villagers are invited to join in the event,
which has been arranged by the Hurst Millennium Committee and the Church.
The torchlight procession begins from the Village hall at 6.30pm.
It will help with parking if people can arrive on foot in the first place.
Do bring a (battery operated) torch.
Drivers please note that Church Hill will be closed to traffic between 6.30 - 8.00pm.
Disabled access (or access to the Castle Restaurant and Almshouses)
will be available from the Western approach.
The Service will be led by the Vicar, the Rev Douglas Loveridge,
and will last from 7.00-7.40pm.
Several people representing different organisations and groups from the village
will be taking part with readings, poetry and songs in celebration of St. Nicholas.
Following a return procession to the Village Hall,
mince pies and mulled wine will be served,
with entertainment from the Parish Handbell Ringers and the Twyford Singers.
Don't miss it!
"Thank you" to Poppy Appeal Collectors
George Claridge would like to thank everyone who stood and collected for
the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal this year.
The final total is being totted up, and will be published
in the next newsletter in February.
Many people attended at the Remembrance Day Service to remember the fallen
of two World Wars and other conflicts of the last century.
The Dug Out supper was a sell-out success with almost 100 people
gathered in the Village Hall for an evening's entertainment from Enterprise 2.
