A Bewitching Time Had By All

Probably the best-dressed collection ever of Hallowe'en revellers gathered in the Village Hall at the end of October. With an occasional glance up the hill (just in case anything untoward was happening in the Churchyard, you understand), 103 people, fuelled by Helen Mert's ghoulash, ate, drank, gossiped, and danced the night away to the strains of Sue Scorer's disco.

Many thanks to all who worked hard to make the evening a success, and to everyone who came along to enjoy themselves.

"A wizard evening," said one happy reveller as she mounted her broomstick at the end of the evening.

We won't know for several months if the trees planted in Hurst during the wet weekend of 24 and 25 November have contributed to a World Record, but at least we tried! Janet Spiller and her trusty gang of spade and fork - wielding tree planters managed to plant 84 native trees in pre-arranged sites throughout the village. These include St Nicholas' School and the Village Hall grounds.

In order to qualify for the Guinness World Record, independent observers had visited the sites and photographs were taken of the trees when they had been planted. The site map to show the locations of the trees was verified by two Justices of the Peace and local newspapers reported the tree-planting sessions.
