The View from Shute End

The Annual Council Meeting held on Thursday 17th May followed the recent local elections when one third of the Council seats were up for election. There are now 43 Conservatives and 11 Liberal Democrats. The annual meeting is where the members decide who will sit on the various committees, boards and outside bodies, and who will chair them for the following year.

The Chairman of the Council, since Borough status was granted by Her Majesty the Queen, now becomes Borough Mayor. I had the honour of being elected to this office for the year. The new gold chain was sponsored by the Oracle Corporation. It is very beautiful and very heavy!

I am very pleased that we have a Mayor who lives in the North of the Borough and I will attend as many functions in Hurst as possible. Frank Browne was re-elected as Leader of the Council.

When not on 'civic' duties I will still hold a Saturday surgery from 10am - noon. Please leave a message if the answer phone is switched on and I will call you back. Remember to speak very clearly when you give me your name and number!
